Lots of great food over the weekend. Saturday in NY was fun. Had dinner with son and his new friend from FCI. We had dinner at L'Cole the restaurant of the School. It was terrific. Nice way to celebrate my sons BD. he is loving this experience and has a new foodie friend that shares his enthusiasm Will try to add some pics later of the great dishes.
We had a nice time on Sunday at the Delaware Water Gap Jazz Fest which is always great and the day was sunny and perfect in every way except for a few bees. Had my hot dog with mustard and then behaved and had a salad for second meal. Found some great art prints at reasonable prices.
On Monday my B.D. we went out to dinner at Star Fish Brassiere (SP) it was a wonderful meal too. We walked in Bethlehem and had dessert at the Hotel Bethlehem which was delicious too. I am afraid I only lost 1/4 of a pound last week but I did have alot of fun and I will try to do better this week. Hard on a BD week with small celebrations of chocolate happening.
Today I got 2 new students taking my numbers up to 24. we had a good day and now we are getting a bit crowded. All first grades are too high in numbers for what is age appropriate and best practice. I am lucky to have support in classroom this year.
Will try to awake early tomorrow to get some excercise.

It was a good days so far. Excercised in AM at the gym and eating was good. OJ and coffee and grapes and pretzels at snack time. Lunch was the same salad and a yougurt. Snack one bite size choc bar and a few pretzels. I also had a v8 again today. Going to try to keep dinner light and if time permits add a walk this evening.
I have one more goal for next June. Funny one that a few teachers and I giggled about in the office after school. Something I would not dare wear now but 40 lbs later darn straight I will!

Was a good day. I did not sleep tru night so had trouble getting up at 5:30 to go to gym. Easy does it. I did take a short fast power walk to start the day off right in the time I had. Will try to get up tomorrow to make the gym and will walk again this evening. Busy day at school but managed to eat proper diet. Yougurt for breakfast eaten while meeting with other teacher in AM. Salad with small an,ount of swiss cheese and turkey, grapes and v-8 in lunch box for the day. Two waters downed during day and a few pretzels. Did have a glass of red wine and a single slice of low fat cheese when I came home. Hope to behave for rest of evening and not eating too much, small portions for dinner.
This week-end I go to see son in NY . He graduated from college in May and started school at the French Culinary Institute in SOHO. We will go to L'Ecole, the restaurant of the school for dinner. Has great reviews and he is loving the school. We are foodies in this family and my son has always wanted to be a chef. He and I have birthdays together next week so it will be a celebration. He will be 24 me 53. Trying to be careful so I may eat a little then.
I know I might not lose this week but know I have done better. Also know I always have to easy into exercise and the second week I tend to hit it harder. I walk first, then get to the club, and final work hard at it once I am there a week or so it becomes routine. It's just so hard getting started and hard to go inside a club when it is nice outside.

As first days go this was a good one. I enjoyed meeting the new class and I did eat healthy.
One slice of whole grain toast and 1/2 cup of cottage cheese for breakfast with decaf.
For lunch it was part of a chef salad made with plenty of lettuce and tom. and a small portion of lean turkey and cheese. I took grapes and a v-8 and did snack on a few pretzels and bite size candy bar and a coffee on the way home.
My hands were full and little time available for drinking water and using the bathroom I might add. I will have an aid this year so I intend to drink as much water as I can! A luxury for early child hood teachers is having the chance to pee!
I hope to go take a walk tonight and exercise at the club tomorrow AM.
My friend Tom went on line to check my blog and found that someone else has recently started a blog with the same intent of losing 40 in 40 weeks. He also is a teacher who writes. So I was the first to write an encouraging note on his blog and hope that we both will to make progress and perhaps encourage each other.
As my journey begins I have a good feeling about the school year and my weigh loss mission.

Yesterday I bought a new digital scale to begin this journey of a new me. Upon waking I tried to weigh in . I carefully read the directions, inserted the battery and when I stood on it I had numerals on top of numerals. After tapping it several times and seeing 127.2 lbs yet again I threw my arms in the air and moaned, "Oh great I would buy the broken scale!" At that point my significant other returned with a cup of coffee for me from the kitchen and said "let me see that". Pulling a plastic strip off the displayed the problem was revealed. The decal said 127.2 lbs. Silly me and that is what I should weigh. I shall hang the decal on the computer to remember to keep at it!
I am also going to make a chain of paperclips 40 clips long and as the scale goes down or up I will take or replace clips. Tomorrow is the first day of school with kids. I hope to start out right with a salad and a V-8 in tow and the promise to begin exercising daily. I will reduce the fats and carbs. but eat a well balanced diet with whole grains, fruits, veg, and lean proteins. The key is my portions must be small and my intake less than what I burn. I must watch the content of my snacks and continue to drink water which I love. Perhaps others will join me on this adventure.
I am 5 ft 6" and the literature that came with my scales says that my BMI at my present weight is about 28. I believe it could be higher. This needs to come down either way. I can't write my weight in here at this point as it seems so high. I am keeping track on a paper and as it comes down I think I will feel better about revealing the loss. I know I will feel better, move better, sleep better and wear clothing better, as well as cut the risk to many illnesses by losing this weight. Any who wish to encourage are welcome to respond and I am hopeful that positive thinking will prevail.
I was very thin until my late thirties and I did watch my diet. Raising my kids alone and centering so much of myself on them and school was part of the problem. I now have no excuse as they are grown, both doing grad work and now I should be taking care of me. I am going to use my membership at the health club and plan on buying a bike when finances permit. I will ski this winter, something I learned at age 43 when my kids were part of ski groups. I am a beginner and might always be but, that is o.k., the exercise makes winter fun and is good for the bod. I taught a friend last year and he now skis better than I. I already have a pupil lined up to learn this year.
I hope to write each night but if that does not happen I will attend several times per week.
